The Pawn Endings-2: Triangulation

Hi everyone,
Hope you are all understanding the endgame positions. Now it\’s time to learn the pawn endings part 2. Here we are going to learn Triangulation, Play on two wings or Balancing, Opposition, Zigzag. To understand these puzzles you need to learn the previous lessons shared in the blog. These positions again converted to the basic pawn endings part-1. Learn the previous lessons first, so that you can easily understand the pawn endings part-2.

Here, if it is black to play we can easily say wins for white
1…  Kc7 2.Kc5  Kc8 3.Kb6  Kb8 4.Kxa6  Kc7 5.Kb5  Kc8 6.Kb6  Kb8 7.c7+  Kc8 8.a6  Kd7 9.Kb7  Kd6 10.c8=Q +-.

if, 1… Kd8 2.Kd6  Kc8 3.c7 7th rank without check wins 3… Kb7 4.Kd7  Ka7 5.c8=R +- (If 5.c8=Q?? stalemate).

If it\’s white to play it would be difficult to find the winning way. In such positions triangulation is the right way to pass the right to move to the opponent as follows.

White to play:
1. Kc4
catching distant opposition 1… Kd8 (1… Kc7 2.Kc5  Kc8 3.Kb6 wins the pawn+-) 2.Kd4  Kc8 3.Kd5 now same position arrives but black to play 3…  Kc7 4.Kc5  Kc8 5.Kb6  Kb8 6.Kxa6  Kc7 7.Kb5  Kc8 8.Kb6  Kb8 9.c7+  Kc8 10.a6  Kd7 11.Kb7  Kd6 12.c8=Q +-
From the position (b) you can see the triangulation pattern.
